Be warned, there be spoilers ahead!

And also, I hope Synch and metalmania96 don't mind me jumping the gun on them for this one Tongue

Okay so anyway, as of now, I have completed the Point Lookout DLC. While I am still to approach the final mission to commence Broken Steel and its missions, I'd have to say this one exceeds all other DLC in playable content thus far. It took a few days (in that I can only play a couple of hours at night after work each day) to finish this - And the side quests, lucky for me, added in quite a bit of time.

As the boat sailed towards the boardwalk, I was overwhelmed with excitement as you are greeted with the rolling scenery of an abandoned waterside town, and you can almost picture how busy it once might've been in its prime. The large and very visibly rusting and broken down Ferris Wheel adding a sense of dread as you set off in your travels.

Basically, you start out heading up to the old mansion where you're thrown in head first into the excitement. A rather abrupt Ghoul by the name of Desmond is your first port of call, who barks at you to help him defend the mansion. Defend from what? Insane tribals hell bent on tearing your head off and eating it for breakfast. Straight away you can see the new gear as they wield axes, lever action rifles, and double barrel shotguns. And the way they do this is amazing. During your time here, you can't help but feel a sense of survival horror creeping into it as you find in one part you fall through the floor and down three stories - Only to be met with a horde of Tribals quite literally busting the door down to get a piece of you.. Almost like they knew you'd fall!

Once these events pass you find yourself embroiled in a fued dating back centuries, and I won't go into details - You can find those out for yourself. And with Fallout being Fallout, you are of course given the option of siding with either of the sides in the conflict, but notably different were the black and white choices. This DLC on the other hand, has a very grey area, and you find yourself giving it some real serious thought before making a dedication to either side.

One point I'd like to mention, though, is one of the events leading up to proceedings that is arguably one of the most entertaining things in Fallout to date. Again, I won't say anything on it and let you find out for yourself, but suffice to say it will make you go "What the..!?" in a very similar fashion to that first time you stepped out onto Tranquility Lane.

The enemies are a mixture of, for lack of a better term - Mutated rednecks. They speak in a Southerner drawl, and they have lumps all over their bodies, and are generally big and clumsy. But don't be fooled, they hit hard, and they're ultra creepy to boot. The only drawback here, which is my only real qualm as it is for many others, is that this makes it a bit awkward because it adds a sense of feeling that these guys are stronger than anything you'll meet in the Capital Wasteland.

To quote another review I saw recently:
"My alien blaster will kill a heavily-armoured Enclave Commander in one shot, but Cletus McBanjo will often eat one and still come running after me. Indeed, he and his cousins (who are also his brothers, uncles and lovers) are able to take up to six shotgun blasts to the head before they finally take a dirt-nap"
Which sums it up pretty well in my opinion. But don't be too worried, as long as you're careful and play smart, you should be fine. I only had to reload the game once from death and that was because I didn't see a cliff which I proceeded to rag-doll down.

Overall though I thoroughly enjoyed this DLC as I'm sure most of you will. There is a lot to see and do in Point Lookout - Even more if you can be bothered with the side quests and vast exploration on offer. This DLC is the least linear of the lot, and which I believe has over 40 locations to find. Not to mention the scenery of vegetation and swamps is something different to the Wasteland rocks and browns many of us are familiar with.

Go and get this. Now. I mean besides, whats 10 bucks? Would cost you a lot more for an escort to keep you entertained for as long as this does Tongue

Wow, amazing write up.
I think I've finally found somebody willing to contribute as much as Synch, admin, and I.
You are amazing, I don't think even I could have created a better write up for Point Lookout, I've sent some karma your way, keep posting bro, and once you reach Fallout Pro status, I might have a little chat with Cal about upgrading your status.
Oh, and I don't mind in the least, Synch probably won't either, if you missed anything, he will just add on to it.
Amazing work!!

Point Lookout, and don't want spoilers!  Grin

Great work as always man.

haha thanks for the kudos guys Grin

And yeah, with the DLC still having that fresh new smell on the shelves, I wanted to warn ya's about possible spoilers - Though I was very careful not to give TOO much away. I just really enjoyed it and felt I needed to contribute to the Good Fight, as it were.

Cheers.

That was a great contribution to the Good Fight.
Now that I was able to download and play Point Lookout on PC,
I was able to read the review in entirety. Not many spoilers but
it is very interesting how this is such an open ended game, you
can play any number of ways. I actually saved the Local Flavor
mansion quest for last, basically, and only investigated the mansion
after being led there on a side (spy) quest. Very cool indeed.
Very tricky as well using special items to get into a secret
place, that is a new form of solving a puzzle, I even had to write
the code down so that I could figure it out.

I had a feeling this was going to be very hardcore so I used stealth
and headed straight for the boardwalk, searching everything, and after
taking the Ferryman's advice started picking up info on the recon trail.
For me it all started with the hotel office, then the rooms, which lead
to one of the coolest side quests I've ever seen in Fallout. The new
technology of voice activation gave being a thief a whole new feel.

I used the Hotel as a base, as you can sleep in the bed and stash stuff.
Everything I could pick up went in the room trunk, basically I explored
the entire islands really before settling in to the main story lines.
Out of the 2 main vendors on the islands, I quickly found another little
secret that we've never even seen in regular Fallout.

I think I found all the locations, got all the special items, and was REALLY
surprised at what occurs during a special trip to see a big tree.
That was awesome.

I'd like to discuss a number of the things which are considered spoilers
so I hope we have some threads to play around with, since like the Pitt,
and the Broken Steel locations, you can travel back to Point Lookout again.

That is simply part of the 9 Bouys, mini-quests for treasure hunting.
Anyone who has done all of the side quests and mini-quests has seen it.
You should also use spoiler tags for something like that.

Your signature is so large it is screen-raping. You should reduce the
size to 600 x 200 in consideration of members with dial-up. I make this a
rule at my forums where I am admin, it keeps the forums flowing easily.
