There are traders in both Megaton (Moira at Craterside Supply) and Rivet City (Market)
There are also some traveling traders, one found usually just outside the entrance of Megaton. There must be more I guess, but those are the ones I use...
Be careful when selling: they have only a fixed amount of money to barter with: if you go over the amount of caps they have, you are giving stuff away! They replenish after X amount of time though...

Korroghan pretty much got the most popular places to sell at.
You can also sell to other people, such as Gob in Megaton at Moriarty's Saloon. Gob is the ghoul who sells drinks, and you can sell all your unwanted junk to him also.

Ah, thanks a lot. I went up to them before to try to sell stuff but I wasn't aware that I needed to press L1 to sell my stuff.

Much appreciated.

I just wish I woulda known this earlier before I dumped a lot of my stuff.

Also check out the vendors in the Underworld (The Natural History Museum).  They have some good stuff to buy there as well.  Plus there is a guy who you can trade 5 scrap metals for a stimpack.  Better than selling them for 1 cap a piece!
